Kuroshima Island is where the history of the hidden Christians remains.
Kuroshima Island, located off the Kujukushima Islands, is approximately 50 minutes by ferry from Ainoura Port in Sasebo City. This island is where Christians lived in hiding to escape persecution during the Edo period (1603 – 1867), and 80% of the islanders remain Catholics. The footprints of ancestors who crossed the sea to protect their faith are today the guides of the believers living on this island.
Takashima Island has a small fisherman’s town.
A small fisherman’s town with approximately 200 residents is one of the 208 Kujuku Islands, and you can see Hirado and the Goto Islands nearby. When you put yourself in the wilderness between the sea and the sky, you will feel like you have become part of it, and it will awaken your dormant senses.
